As an Ayurveda Health Counselor, one of the most frequent questions I get is:
What’s the one (simple) thing I can do that will most improve my health?
There are SO many ways to answer this, and all of them are right—depending on the person, the season of life they’re in, and the imbalance they’re experiencing.
But if I had to give a blanket answer of one SIMPLE thing we could all do to improve our health, it would be to drink tea. And nope, not just any tea. (You know I’m going to get highly specific here, don’t you?;-) That’s right, I’m talking CCF Tea: cumin, coriander, and fennel tea.
Why You Should Drink CCF Tea
CCF Tea is HIGHLY revered in Ayurveda. The spices alone do wonders, but when combined together are a magic potion of wellness. A few standout reasons this mixture is golden are:
—It strengthens agni (i.e. will help you to have better digestion AND absorption!)
—Helps to get rid of ama (i.e. toxins in the body)
—Increases fat burning, and moves lymph
—Reduces inflammation
—Relieves indigestion and gas
Also, sipping on this warm tea throughout the day will help to curb what you may think are hunger pains when really, you may just be having a bit of dehydration.
How To Make CCF Tea
To create your own blend, you’ll need:
1/2 teaspoon organic fennel seeds
1/4 teaspoon organic cumin seeds
1/4 teaspoon organic coriander seeds
Mix them all together, and add to two cups of boiled water. Let the mixture steep for at least 15 minutes, and then strain.
If making your own CCF Tea isn’t your jam (no shame, I’m currently buying mine prepackaged!;-), there are lots of options available. I find Banyan Botanicals to be a fantastic source for all my Ayurveda goodies, if you want a personal recommendation. Their Organic CCF Tea is right this way.
When You Should Drink CCF Tea
Basically…all. day. long. It’s good practice to make this tea in the morning, stick it into a thermos that will keep it nice and toasty throughout the day, and bring that thermos with you everywhere you go.
Just remember—Ayurveda is all about moderation and balance. This is not a competition of how much CCF Tea you can chug at once. Quite the opposite—you should take small sips throughout the day.
When you’re enjoying your meal, let the food be the focus. If you need to sip while eating, less than half a cup is ideal so your digestive juices can stay strong.
Pinkies up, yogis!
