During our last Hygge Yoga Community virtual Candelight Chat, we themed the discussion: Tips For Being Hygge This Winter. Now, we all collectively agreed that it’s fairly easy to be hygge during the months of November and December, since there’s so many festive holidays, gatherings, and twinkle lights galore! However, the rest of the winter is another story!
Since most of us in the discussion that evening live in relatively colder climates (Canada, Germany, New York…!), we’re aware that even though spring starts on the calendar in mid-March, we’ll realistically still be bundled up until well into May! So the conversation felt relevant, important even. How do we remain happy and hygge in the post-holiday cold?
Below you’ll find the the ideas that were discussed in our chat.
Lather your feet with lotion and put cozy socks on top! Bonus points if the socks are a bright, happy color.
Leeks! Cook and savor them all season.
Lights! Keep twinkle lights up well past the holidays, light the candles, hunker down by a reading light…
Throw sheepskin rugs or faux fur blankets onto the floor and cozy up while watching your show.
Have a virtual movie watching night with faraway friends or family, where you watch the film together, then FaceTime afterwards to discuss.
Engage in winter sports! Ice skating, snow shoeing, skiing, tubing, or even just a long winter walk to appreciate the season.
Put an audiobook on while you’re doing housework inside.
Bake! Bonus points for baking an extra loaf or plate of cookies and dropping them off with a neighbor, while having a little chat.
Make a super cozy reading nook with blankets, candles, and a stack of books from the library to read at your leisure.
Write a handwritten letter and mail it by post.
Put fun things on the calendar so you have something to look forward to!
Use the extra hours of dark to hunker down at home with a hobby you love, learning a new skill, taking an online class, or making progress on a project.
What do you do to stay hygge in the post-holiday cold? Let’s chat!
